15 years of experience working with leaders in various sectors managing business development, client services and retention, has led to many questions regarding what it takes to gain the trust of clients and to build lasting relationships. One certainty is that it doesn’t happen overnight, rather it takes work, commitment, and a shared respect. Taking the time to review the many key factors through the years presents an opportunity to share for reflection and utilization.

Where do we begin…..with the most important, though sadly disregarded area, the tools.

→Be transparent.

Be open and honest with your clients and maintain transparency in your actions and decisions.

→Communicate effectively

Utilize clear and concise language, and above all, prioritize listening and actually hearing your clients.

→Be reliable

Let your clients know they can count on you by delivering on your promises and having your work done on time and on budget.

→Be proactive.

Reach out to your clients from time to time. Make time for them to show that you value them.

 →Be Authentic

Create genuine relationships with your clients. Treat them as individuals. Personalize your interactions and services to their specific needs and show genuine interest in their success.

→Ask for feedback

Regularly seek feedback from your clients and put it into play. Act on it to show that you value their input.

 →Understand your clients.

Research their industry, market trends, and key impacts to their business to understand how you can add value for them. Align your strategies with their goals and adapt to their evolving requirements as appropriate.

→Deliver exceptional value

Consistently deliver value that goes beyond products or services. Become a trusted partner rather than just a service provider.

Once you adopt these key tools into your daily and weekly work strategies, you can build around it and see how it begins to gel together. You will not only set yourself apart as a trusted partner with and for your clients, but you present the opportunity to be referred to as a leader in client relations and success.
